Lee’s coaching journey began early. At 14 he was already running core conditioning sessions for his boxing club, and by 15 he held an assistant coaching award. At 17 he became one of the youngest Amateur Boxing Association coaches in the UK. After competing as an amateur boxer for many years, he went on to study Sports Science and later earned a Master’s in Human and Applied Physiology from King’s College London.

In 2011, while blogging about fitness trends, Lee discovered CrossFit, and never looked back. Since then, he’s competed in events around the world and often jokes that he’s made all the mistakes so you don’t have to.

At Shapesmiths, Lee has spent the past decade shaping the coaching philosophy and programming vision that members experience today, leading an incredible team who bring it to life every day. He also runs the Building Better Bones program with Emma Dean and Kamal Patel, applying his background in physiology, including research on how zero gravity affects astronauts’ bones, to help members improve their bone health and strength.

Outside the gym, Lee plays in a band called Home Run Jack, formed in memory of their friend and Shapesmiths member Jack Holmes, who sadly passed from Translocation Sarcoma in 2024. The band now tours the UK, playing small festivals, weddings, and community events.

And for something completely different, in 2015 Lee took part in the BBC TV series Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week, training with units such as the Navy SEALS, and NAVSOG in the Philippines
